"Solera" Photography Exhibition Catalog: Al compás de Metro
Solera. Al compás de Metro was born from an encounter that seemed impossible—that of two cultural heritages that beat to the same rhythm without ever having crossed paths. On one hand, flamenco, the “art jondo” made up of silences that scream and screams that turn into silence. On the other, the historic spaces of the Madrid Metro: Chamberí Station, dormant yet awakened only for those who know how to look; the Pacífico Engine House, which once powered the Metro; the historic Pacífico concourse, with its dazzling tiles and iridescent ceramics; the Tirso de Molina station, with its white-tiled vault, its ceramic friezes, and that ancient coat of arms that seems to guard Madrid’s most authentic memory underground; the Los Caños del Peral Museum, where water from a 16th-century spring continues to whisper beneath the stone; the historic trains at Chamartín, twelve century-old cars that once carried Madrid from one end of its own history to the other; and the Paco de Lucía station, where the colors of the large mural *Entre dos universos* bring a contemporary touch to the tribute to the maestro and prove that flamenco can burn with new vitality even underground.
Behind each of the photographs on display here is a perspective—that of Javier Enrique Fernández. While some portrait photographers seek to capture the burst of action, he seeks to capture the moment surrounding it.
